Case No. 1: “The Airport Case”

The incident dates back to March 15, 2021, when Carthage International Airport in Tunis, the capital, witnessed a fight between airport security personnel, lawyers, and deputies in the Dignity Coalition (18 deputies in the dissolved parliament out of 217), after they tried to defend a passenger who was prevented from leaving the country for security reasons.

Case No. 2

“Insulting the Assistant Prosecutor of the Republic at the Permanent Military Court in Tunisia” on the grounds of a dispute that arose after he was prevented from the prosecution of his colleague in the same party, Nidal Al-Saudi, during his interrogation in the case of the incident of storming Tunis-Carthage International Airport.

Case No. 3

A case related to “insulting” the representative of the Republic in Sidi Bouzid, who decided to close the Koranic school in Regueb and refer some of its supervisors to the judiciary. A complaint was filed against Makhlouf by the public prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Sidi Bouzid, after he published a video recording criticizing the closure decision

Case No. 1: “The Airport Case”

Initial ruling in May 2022 to five months in prison for “undermining the morale of the army”

In June 2022, a military court also sentenced Makhlouf to one year in prison for “undermining the morale of the army.” He was also banned from practicing law for five years

January 20, 2023: The military court sentenced him, on appeal, to 14 months in prison, with immediate effect, on charges of “undermining the morale of the army,” according to his lawyer. He was also banned from practicing law for five years

February 2023: The Military Court of Appeal in Tunis sentences Makhlouf to seven months in prison, in a session boycotted by lawyers.

April 27, 2023:
He was released after serving eight months in prison

Case No. 2

The military investigative judge issued a prison deposit card

Appeal – The military court sentenced him to one year in prison and banned him from practicing law for five years

Commentary – The Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation in Tunis issued, on Friday, March 10, 2023, a decision of “cassation and referral” regarding the military appeal ruling that had sentenced the former deputy and lawyer to one year in prison and prevented him from practicing the legal profession for a period of five years.

June 13, 2023: The misdemeanor circuit of the Military Court of Appeal ruled a one-year prison sentence for Saif al-Din Makhlouf, and prevented him from practicing law for two years.

Case No. 3

The eighth misdemeanor circuit of the Court of First Instance in Tunis sentenced Makhlouf to 8 months in prison

Appeal: June 10, 2023: The misdemeanor circuit at the Court of Appeal confirmed the first sentence and raised the corporal punishment from eight months to one year and eight months in prison.

Biography

Seifeddine Makhlouf, born August 12, 1975 in Tunis, is a Tunisian lawyer and politician. Since 2019, he has been a deputy to the Assembly of People’s Representatives and president of the parliamentary group of the Dignity Coalition.
