A number of law professors from law schools called on the Tunisian authorities to release political prisoners.
Petition text:
As a result of the campaign of arrests that affected dozens of opponents and activists, including former MPs and ministers, party leaders, journalists, lawyers, judges, rights defenders and bloggers of both sexes, which was characterized by “spectacle” and a show of force and intimidation.
And given that those who suffer from them have been languishing for months in prisons without right and without a fair trial, after filing a case on the basis of the law related to combating terrorism and preventing money laundering (Basic Law No. 26 of 2015) and issuing suspicious convictions and imaginary charges, in general, of “conspiring against state security, and forcing the population to Attacking each other, laundering money, colluding with foreign countries, spreading false news and committing an abominable thing against the head of state and even targeting him to take his life.”
The repressive machine has increased in the face of any voice opposed to the existing authority and intensified
Chasing opponents and opponents in a context in which there were many statements by the President of the State calling the detainees “traitors and conspirators”, considering that “history has pronounced their condemnation before the judiciary”, applying, by the way, unparalleled pressure on the judiciary by saying, for example: “… whoever dares to acquit them, is their partner.” .
In the face of this repressive wave, we, the professors of higher education in law and political science in faculties, higher institutes, schools and other academies in legal, political, administrative and management sciences, the signatories of this petition, demand, for the following reasons, the immediate and comprehensive release of all political detainees and prisoners of conscience who were imprisoned in Prisons without right or a fair trial.
Therefore, for all these reasons that address the human rights conscience, we, the signatories of this petition, renew our call for the immediate and comprehensive release of all political detainees and prisoners of conscience who were imprisoned unlawfully and with a fair trial.
